Question by Jack: Will a Cold Air Intake help increase my HP and gas mileage of my car?
I have a 1996 Honda Accord Ex (4-cylinder , 4 door) and I love it. But will a CAI help increase the horse power and the gas mileage of a a car?
And how easy would it be to install? I have some wrenches and other tools.
Reading some of the answers and it looks like it’s not worth getting.
Correct? and if decided to get it, where would I buy the bypass valve at?

Cold air kits will help with HP and milage but the gains are not huge. maybe 1 or 2mpg on average and maybe 2-3 hp on average.
Install is quick if you get a kit for your car, they usually come with all the hardware and usually a screwdriver and maybe a wrench is about all you need.

it would help a little bit with a horsepower gain but nothing really noticable but will improve gas millage. and they are very easy to install. go with a k&n or aem intake. and get bypass valve so water doesnt get sucked into the motor.
i have an aem on my accord, install is easy, remove all the stock intake tubing and air box with a 10mm socket and screwdriver, youll need to move the passenger side fender well plastic to get the 2 10mm on lower portion of the airbox. it adds some top end power, i did not notice any mpg change.
if u want more power and better mpg ebven do it is a 4dr u can turbo it that will b the easy and the best way ull get a hugh gain
it depends. usually people who put cold air intakes on their car drive fast or like the sound it makes at high revs, so they will be reving the car at high rpms. that will ruin your mileage. but if u drive normal it should add to the mpg. as for hp, if it is a true cold air intake it will add hp, because colder air has more o2 and therefore will combust better.
