The main thing on your computer which uses 80% of the electricity supplied to your computer, is the monitor. Just be sure to turn off your monitor if you are going to be away from your computer, for any length of time..
I’ve had other people tell me it doesn’t matter, but I not so sure
Of course it would but not much. Turning the computer on and off more than a couple of times a day is a bit excessive in my opinion as starting up the system also strains it ever so slightly.
It will definitely save electricity if you power off the computer. I think it cost about $ 10 more per month when I used to leave my PC on 24/7.
As for the life expectancy of your pc, the disk drive is most stressed by frequent powering on and off.
My office pc is on 24/7, and it hasn’t had problems in years.
I would only turn off the monitor. It is okay to have the tower on. If you have a laptop just close the display to it is stand by mode.
