    Learn how to drive properly. Stopping, speeding up, sitting idle, etc. all add to gas usage. Having your car tuned up and properly inflated tires will help a lot too.

    Synthetic oil. Take stuff you don’t need out of the trunk. Drive a steady speed.

    Reduce the weight in the car if possible.
    Properly inflate your tires.
    Regular oil changes and fuel line services.
    Smoothly accelerate and decelerate.
    Get a more fuel efficient car.

    Try driving more on the open highway. It is the constant stop and go that causes MPG to decrease.

    Also, try using cruise control to go a consistent steady speed.
